Yellow Tower
Veuve Clicquot
Università degli Studi Milano
Luca Trazzi was fascinated by his visit to the Veuve Clicquot archives in Reims:
“I was able to read in the meticulously drawn up records that the first shipment of Champagne was made in Venice as early as 1775.
This installation aims to celebrate the tradition of the Maison and is a tribute to Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, Clicquot's widow.”
The Project
The project is a "capsule" which freely interprets and reinvents the design of the bottle and which contains, in the yellow cage with an unmistakable colour, the innovative spirit of the woman who was the "Grande Dame" of champagne, an innovative, emancipated and far-sighted woman who made the the Clicquot cellar.
Perfect example of Energy for creativity.
This structure stores champagne as in caves, which were dug out of the chalk by the Romans in Reims in the IV century d.c. and transformed into cellars, they protect and accompany the aging of the bottles.
Inside the structure, enclosed by the dome, the bottles of champagne are contained and protected by a display screen. A painted steel counter with special satin silver effects becomes the meeting place where the sommeliers tell the incredible story of the Veuve Clicquot maison. The installation is composed of calendered metal elements that form the structure and support the dome inside.
Frames made of metal rods envelop the internal space creating a play of transparencies.
This juxtaposition of new and old is repeated in the dialogue between the installation, the Torre Velasca by B.B.P.R. and the colonnade of the Courtyard of Honor from the 600 century designed by Filarete.
