T-Garden

Università degli Studi di Milano

The project is an experimental installation in the Pharmacy courtyard of the State University. Visitors, in the marvelous courtyard dating back to 1469, witness a show created with new lighting technologies that change the perception of the surrounding space. By using metal weaves and high-tech, elastic fabrics, the existing elements of the courtyard are "dressed." The effect is that of technological flowers, which, when illuminated, create thousands of chromatic combinations. These luminous elements are applied to an ellipse of metal mesh, forming a modern and technological garden. Upon entering, visitors can interact with and play with the installation’s elements, altering their appearance and color. This installation aims to experiment with the use of new materials in applications that differ from their conventional use.

The Concept

Garden: historically an artifice born from aesthetic ingenuity, materials, and plants intended to convey the emotion of beauty. The project overlays a modern interpretation with innovative technologies onto the cloister of the State University, featuring luminous flowers with shifting colors, metal meshes, and coverings of colored fabrics. It transforms, for the brief span of a few days, an ancient language to be experienced during the day into a contemporary-futuristic magic to be enjoyed at night, creating the “Garden of Light.”
