Porsche 993 Speedster LT

Stuttgart, Germany

This project turned my dream into reality.

At the beginning, I looked around but could not quite find the car I dreamed of, so I decided to build it myself.

I wanted to create a modern Speedster 993 with a distinct identity, blending iconic elements with contemporary features. The design emphasize a unique yellow body, signature rear humps integrated with a roll bar, and enhanced performance, all while maintaining the car’s original certification.

As a young boy, I fell head over heels in love with the puristic Porsche Speedster. I had to work very hard to be able to afford my first Porsche, a Speedster 1600 Super from 1955. Ever since, I’ve managed to live my passion, or more precisely, my Speedster-mania.

My dream was to complete my collection with a 911 Speedster of Type 993. Out of passion, I designed what this model might look like. I wanted the project to unify the stylistic elements of all previous Speedster models. Because although this body version has always continued to develop throughout its history, it preserved the elegance of its predecessors and stayed true to its beginnings.

This One-Off Speedster LT, the first One-Off ever built by Porsche, is a respectful synthesis of the lines of past Speedsters, incorporating elements from the 356, 911, 964, 993, 997 and 991 model- an homage to the timeless design of these beloved cars. Working alongside Grant Larson, who shares this design language, and Porsche’s exceptional engineering team, it was possible to bring this unique vision to life.

Collaborating with Porsche Sonderwunsch, the goal is to craft an everyday car that is both powerful and visually striking. The result? A masterpiece that reflects both the soul of its creator and the spirit of Porsche’s heritage.

This journey from concept to creation is not just the story of a car, but a testament to what is possible when guided by passion.

The Project

This project aims to create a car with a distinct identity, not just a replica of the 1995 prototype, but a modern vehicle with well-defined styling elements.

The goal is to design an everyday car that is not just for show, but balanced, stiffer, more powerful and equipped with a superior braking system. The car should have an extraordinary silhouette while maintaining the original license plate and current certification.

The project began with a visit to the Porsche archive to take a deep dive into the history of the Speedster and generate additional ideas. Luca Trazzi arrived at this first meeting with his own project book full of drafts and sketches and with a very clear and defined project idea on how he wanted to create his individual Speedster. This chimed with the philosophy of the Factory One-Off, namely that before the one-off car is finished, the focus is on the joint, creative car development process. The customer becomes an active part of the project team, closely following the implementation of their idea from the perspective of a project manager.

During the project, Luca Trazzi visited Porsche multiple times, making good use of the works ID issued to him for the project. Among other things, he witnessed his Speedster taking a bath in the cathodic dip-painting at the factory paint shop. This procedure is otherwise reserved for new cars undergoing the regular production process. Then began the complete manual coating cycle. The luminous yellow car paint was not just developed as a colour specifically for the customer – its name was also very personal, coming as it did from the customer’s own dog, Otto. During a meeting, the designer spontaneously named the paint after his four-legged companion, and ‘Otto Yellow’ was born.

Construction

The rear cover and windshield are typical Speedster features. Only a thin black frame runs across them, enhancing their effect.

Black tapered exterior mirrors, in the classic 1960s sports car design, and the four point daytime running lights of modern Porsche models are other distinctive features of the exterior. The body line of the rear cover has been completely redesigned by Luca Trazzi.

The Speedster is painted in Ottoyellow. This striking shade of yellow was developed specifically for this car. The 18-inch light-alloy wheels with Turbo design are painted in black, with a contrasting thin yellow line.

The black axle protection films in front of the rear wheels are functional design elements and distinctive features of other Speedster generations. They match the black door handles and air intakes in the front spoiler.

The appearance of the exclusive model is sporty: the experts at Sonderwunsch installed the front spoiler, side steps and rear fenders from the 911 Turbo (type 993). The turn signals, taillights and light strip have been reinterpreted in the look.

Otto Yellow

The bright yellow body paint was not only developed as a specific shade for Luca Trazzi but also stands out for its unique name, inspired by his dog, Otto. During a meeting, the designer decided to name the paint after his four-legged companion, and thus, “Otto Yellow” was born.

Painting

The Speedster is painted in Otto Yellow. This imposing yellow was developed especially for the car. The 18-inch light alloy wheels in Turbo design are painted black, with the fineline in contrasting yellow.

The black stone chip protection sheets in front of the rear wheels are functional design elements and striking features from other Speedster generations. They harmonise with the black door handles and the air intakes in the front spoiler. The Factory One-Off has a sporty look, with the Sonderwunsch experts having drawn on the front spoiler, side skirts and rear wings of the 911 Turbo (Type 993). The looks of the indicators, taillights and light strip have been reinterpreted.

The Interiors

The interior is dominated by black leather with decorative yellow stitching. The headrests are embellished with embroidered Speedster lettering.

The focal point of the interior is the center sections of the seats: they feature a “checkerboard” design with yellow and black checkerboards. A masterpiece of craftsmanship, as each checkerboard was cut and sewn by hand. The front trunk, upholstered in leather, the car cover and a matching tote bag repeat the same motif.

Carbon elements on the dashboard, center console, and handbrake and shift levers further personalize the cabin. Seat backs are also made of carbon. Carbon fiber sill strips are illuminated for the first time in a Porsche 911 type 993, in “Ottoyellow” of course, and feature custom lettering.
